Walking
the Talk
Our farmers and their families don't just talk stewardship. They live
it! Just take the Cates Family pictured above as an example. They farm
870 acres of picturesque pastures dissected by spring-fed trout streams
and woods in Iowa county here in Wisconsin. Using holistic resource management
(HRM) and managed intensive grazing, the Cates family has protected and
even improved their riparian and woodland areas. For their efforts the
Cates have won the 1996 Iowa County Tree Farmer of the Year Award as well
as the 1999 Iowa County Water Quality Achievement Award. In our group,
farm families like the Cates aren't the exception, they are the norm!

Holistic
Resource Management
It is important to recognize that all of our farm families
were farming holistically before they formed Wisconsin Pasturelands. And
while our farmers certainly deserve the premium they get paid for their
stewardship, they really farm this way because it's the right thing to
do for the earth and for their families. They love being a part of the
landscape, learning its ebbs and flows, its rhythms, and how to integrate
themselves seamlessly into the secret workings of nature. For information
