The Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Coalition works to create a sustainable, just, and locally based food system in Southern Wisconsin by promoting and supporting CSA farms, coordinating community and farmer education programs about the benefits of locally, sustainably grown foods, and operating the Partner Shares Program which raises funds to subsidize CSA memberships for households on a limited income. Each year hundreds of area households learn about CSA through MACSAC's annual events including the CSA Open House (March) the Empty Bowls Dinner (October), educational workshops and cooking demonstrations, and the distribution of our food book From Asparagus to Zucchini: A Guide to Cooking Farm Fresh Seasonal Produce. Interested growers and households join the coalition mailing list to receive newsletters and invitations to grower gatherings and other events. Farmers wishing to be formally promoted by the Coalition complete an application and interview process held annually in the Fall.
